Try Wine, Minus All Its Benefits

by Jesse Frederick
My wife ran across some interesting news (at least it was news to me) while searching the Internet for some all-natural vitamin supplements. It read:

Resveratrol: The Antioxidant Compound in Red Wine that Provides Multiple Health Benefits.

Naturally, I was quite interested in this development. I had known for some time that red wine has had numerous health benefits, foremost being its ability to thin blood and therefore help prevent high cholesterol and all the diseases that come with it (one reason why Frenchies—despite diets ultra-high in fats and cholesterol—somehow stay relatively healthy).

So what does the medical community do? Experiment and run tests and more tests and more experiments and more tests and experiments (I guarantee I’m not getting too carried away, I am sure they do a hundred times more runs of these tests and experiments than what I’ve mentioned in this sentence). But why do they do all this? To discover what exactly in red wine makes it so healthy (because, obviously red wine as a whole—“the devil’s nectar” and all—can’t be healthy).

Enter resveratrol—the heroine of the health-conscious, alcohol-despising, vino-indifferent community. Now—you might want to sit down for this one—you can get “all” the health benefits of wine without taking one sip of Cab. Sauv!

I can already hear the cheers of my readers.

Yes! No more drinking wine! After all, the only reason I was drinking it in the first place was for its benefits to my circulatory health. Okay, just joking. I am sure that there is only one or two of my readers out there who would react in such a way—if even that. And why is that? Because we all love wine for what it is in its whole, liquid form. We appreciate and enjoy its benefits—all of them! To people like you and me, red wine’s health benefits are a bit of a bonus. We would drink it anyway because we love vino juice.

So, besides health, what are all the benefits of wine? Well, for starters, alcohol. Without this much needed ingredient, wine would not have a happy, soothing, relaxing effect. Another benefit is its specific aroma. Another, I suppose, would be its beautiful, artful coloring. Then there is the taste—mmmmmm! And let’s not forget about texture. And I could go on and on and on. You get the point. (If you have any more wine benefits, feel free to comment about them. I would love to hear why you personally enjoy wine).

Bottom line is this: For those who aren’t absolutely fond of red wine, but are jealous of us who enjoy it and have less problems fighting high cholesterol as a whole; have a heyday getting those resveratrol pills and missing out on the thousands of other benefits from wine. For the rest of us; have a blast drinking wine, experimenting with different kinds and grapes and environments, sniffing the wonderful aroma, wondering at the magnificent, aesthetically beautiful coloring, and—by the way—you get a bonus. It’s healthy!
